The theme for VBS this year is Big Fish Bay and the story of Jonah. I keep trying to cross up the kids and say Noah and the big fish, but most of the time I’m corrected. The mission team leads children from Idaho Falls and Blackfoot in Bible Study, worship and song, crafts, games, and snacks all centered around the four chapters in Noah . . . er, I mean Jonah.

The team started Monday at Tautphas Park in Idaho Falls. We host the VBS at the park, as we believe that parents will send their children to a park rather than a Baptist Church in a predominantly Mormon area. Adults and youth from Falls Baptist Church joined us and a good handful of children showed up for the first day. It was bright and warm weather conditions, although the natives would call it hot.

Natives.

For Falls Baptist Church members, it is a little different. Other than pastor Jared Clark, the leadership is from Tennessee, and Georgia. These are people who appreciate sweet tea and southern drawls.

After returning from Idaho Falls, we ate supper (provided by the sweet ladies of Grace at Riverside Baptist Church) and then started VBS at Riverside. Although attendance was low for the children, it was good for the adults as Lyle Rainey led them in the Bible study in 1st John. Lyle is using Bro. Bill’s book “God’s Final Exam” and the videos from the website.

Another major part of this ministry involves Rodney Jarrell and Paul Pipkins working out of Paul Chappell’s shop servicing and repairing vehicles. The first few days mainly consisted of service, but they did have a big repair job of replacing a clutch and pressure plate in a four-wheel-drive truck.

Until the next time,
