Awana Ministry

Welcome to AWANA Clubs
"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the truth.”(2 Timothy 2‐15)

AWANA is an international, nondenominational, Biblecentered youth organization with an emphasis on scripture memorization and Christian living.

Dear Parent or Guardian, please allow your child to experience one of the best Kids Clubs around: AWANA! AWANA meets at Calvary Baptist Church (beside Petal High School) from 4:45pm - 7:00pm Sunday nights throughout the Petal school year. Our club meetings are so exciting kids can’t wait to come back for more! But fun is only the start. While kids are having a blast; they're learning and growing, too. They learn Bible verses and spiritual truths. They encounter life lessons that feed their soul. They will participate in games and activities that train their bodies. You will quickly discover that AWANA is a fun approach to making the Bible alive and relevant with caring trained leaders who invest time, love and wisdom into shaping children's lives. For nearly 60 years, AWANA has been a leader in children’s ministry, helping churches and parents worldwide raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ. Bible study, games, missions & music time are all part of what make AWANA such a terrific night out for your kids!

A.W.A.N.A. is offered for children ages 2 years through the 6 grade. Clubs:

  • Puggles - 2 and 3 year olds
  • Cubbies - 4 and 5 year olds
  • Sparks - Pre K - 2nd grade

There is a minimal cost for club book and shirt of $20.00 for the entire year for each of the clubs. Please don't let cost hinder your involvement; everyone who wants to join our AWANA club is welcomed! For assistance, contact Russell Young or Pat Hill Cocommanders, (601) 583-8309.

Purchasing AWANA supplies: Handbooks, uniforms (Tshirts or vests) and/or bags are available for purchase. Our desire is for every child to have the opportunity to participate in our AWANA Club. If financial assistance is needed please see the Commander or Club Secretary.

Our program starts at 4:45 p.m. Please make every effort to have your child at the church five (5) to ten (10) minutes early, and then arrive promptly at 7:00 p.m. for pick up in their classroom. Please feel free to visit and talk with your child’s Leader, Director or myself at any time. If you ever have a question please call me at ( 601) 583-8309.

Cavaliers Ministry

The Cavaliers is a Calvary's activity group that meets once a month to enjoy Christian fellowship with people fifty-five years of age and older. When Bro.Boyd Tweedy came to Calvary in 1990, an activity for seniors was established. At that time, there was a Sunday School class named the Cavaliers. This prompted the newly formed senior activity group to take the name of the Cavaliers. It is composed of a different function each month such as a Pot luck Luncheon, the Valentine Banquet, a picnic day, breakfast trips, a fall trip Banquet the includes food, fun and talented performers entertaining at the home of Bro. Boyd and Madelyn Tweedy.
